Centre County United Way Supports Job Coaching at Good Day Café

A $22,000 grant from Centre County United Way will help Good Day Café cover one of the essential costs behind an inclusive workplace: job coaching.

At Good Day Café, employees are supported as they learn and grow. Job coaching helps remove barriers that can make employment more challenging for people with disabilities by providing individualized guidance as employees build workplace skills and confidence. Coaching happens during regular shifts, often in small but meaningful ways. A coach may break a recipe into manageable steps, help an employee practice a task until it feels familiar, offer encouragement during a busy moment, or provide support as someone learns to follow a schedule, interact with customers, or navigate unexpected situations.

This support is part of what makes Good Day Café more than a coffee shop. Employees gain practical skills, confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of belonging.

While sales help keep the doors open, they do not cover the full cost of providing this level of workplace support. Grants and charitable contributions help make these opportunities possible.
