Meet Courtney Shilling, Strawberry Fields Agency Nurse

Courtney Shilling, LPN, with over 14 years of experience, has been an integral part of the Strawberry Fields team for the past two years. As the agency nurse for our intellectual disability program, Courtney's expertise and compassionate approach ensures the quality of care that we provide. 

Courtney's passion for her work is evident in her dedication to providing quality care. She shares, “I love working with our consumers—they are honest, and they make me laugh. It’s important to me to be able to serve as an advocate for our consumers, and to be part of their care team and address or identify any issues that may emerge.” Courtney is committed to continuous improvement through her own care of our consumers and providing support and education to Strawberry Fields staff and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). 

Courtney's role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including: 

• Training and Teaching: Courtney empowers our DSPs with comprehensive medication administration training, emphasizing the "5 Rights" and safe practices for both oral and non-oral medications. 

• On-Call Resource: Courtney is available to address emergent medical issues or procedures outside of routine care. 

• Physician Liaison: She communicates closely with physicians to ensure medication accuracy, adequate supplies, and timely appointments for our consumers. 

• Monthly Health Assessments: Courtney conducts monthly health assessments, including vitals, for every consumer in our intellectual disability residential programs.  

• Medical Appointments: She attends medical appointments alongside DSPs, as needed, acting as a knowledgeable resource and advocate for our consumers. 

• Patient Education: Courtney provides our consumers with personalized health education in line with physician recommendations.  
  

Courtney is the proud mom of two boys! She starts each day with a quiet walk before her boys are up to collect her thoughts and enjoy the tranquility of the morning. 

Courtney's expertise, unwavering dedication, and compassion for those she serves make her an indispensable member of the Strawberry Fields quality team.
